Jesmin Mirza

I am currently majoring in Biological Science. My dream has always been to become a Cardiologist. I born in Bangladesh and grew up in a small-town name Rangpur. I grew up in a joint family of 10 members. All the family members including grandpa and grandma love me a lot because I was the only girl of my parents. My father was an engineer and mother a housewife. Throughout this journey, I have reflected on all of my personal life challenges and successes that have brought me to this moment. I am the mother of a three-year-old boy who was diagnosed with mild autism. Although taking care of my son has been both amazing and fulfilling, it is a full-time job and does not allow me the option of working a part-time job in order to better myself and support my dream. Even though I may struggle at times to maintain a school-family balance, my son is the motivation that keeps me going. I am enrolled at Bronx Community College, where I have been able to apply my hard work, determination, and enthusiasm for education, which brings me closer to my dream. My time at BCC has been a wonderful experience. Then I applied for the Hunter college and got accepted last semester but due to health issues could not able to attend. This semester I applied again to Hunter College and Columbia University and now waiting for their decision. I am excited for what's ahead.
