About

I am Jessica Duarte, and I continued my education to further my career not only in the Wildland Fire Industry but also in the growing Timber Industry. I graduated in 2010 from Umpqua Community College and took a few years to advance my knowledge and on the ground expertise in fire. My qualifications rank as high as a Division Supervisor and encompass supervising an entire fire and/or division on a multi-thousand acre fire. I am looking forward graduating with a Natural Resource Degree directed towards the Forestry side to round out my fire experience.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I would ultimately like to end up working for Oregon Department of Forestry as a Stewardship Forester while continuing to gain fire qualifications and go out on fire assignments. Another career choice would be a Unit Forester for Oregon Department of Forestry or for my current employer in wildland fire. I have made a huge impact on my current work place for women in fire and would love to continue my advancement within the company to make a difference.

Outside the classroom

I enjoy staying active, exploring the outdoors, spending time with family, and shed hunting with my Labrador, Timber. I also very much enjoy my job fighting Forest Fires. It is a very rewarding opportunity to not only help save someones livelihood, but also teach others and watch them grow to love something as much as I do.
