Jessica Thompson

I am a returning student after working in the nursing field for 9 years. In 2007, I obtained my Associate's Degree of Nursing. I had the desire to obtain my Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) however lacked the motivation. I was performing the same duties as nurses with a Bachelor’s degree. Aside from a 5% educational incentive, I didn't think I would be gaining much from the degree besides the ability to work behind a desk. As I developed more experience as a nurse, I participated in committees that focused on patient throughput and policies and procedures. This is what gave me the motivation to begin school again. I am currently enrolled in a BSN program with interest in continuing to receive a Master’s degree. I aspire to be a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). As a CNS, I will be a valuable resource to my peers and patients providing education. As an adult student with children, time management is difficult. However, my dedication to my career will provide me with the motivation I need to push through adversities.
