About

My name is Jesus Rebolledo, recently graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) and currently enrolled in a Master’s of Science in Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner program at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. The pursuit of higher education is essential in freeing the mind and bettering oneself in a variety of ways. Before any of this, the profession of choice was to become a United States Marine and serve this country. Being a Marine exposed me to a passion that was not known before enlisting. Being in a combat zone created an open-minded and exciting spark all of a sudden and helped me to see things from a different perspective.
The first encounter with helping others was during an initial deployment in the Marines while treating the injured and sick in Ar-Ramadi Iraq in 2004. We received our first mission; which was considered a humanitarian mission to win the hearts and minds of the local Iraqi people. Unfortunately, it was not a humanitarian mission and quickly turned into another Alamo turning infantrymen into medics. The idea of treating the injured and saving lives molded and shaped a passion for the ambition to become a Registered Nurse (RN). Some could say combat or trauma was what sealed fate as a nurse and others may say the need to stay alive was what grew into a thirst for learning.

Goals and interests

Career goal

For the past six years as an agency nurse, I have been committed to caring for members of my community from the moment of birth in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to their dying day's in Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Have taken care of new onsets asthma attacks to running code blues in the Emergency Room (ER). Every patient has taught me and made me grow as a professional leaving me wanting to give and do more for my patients. Pursuing this graduate degree has been a dream since graduating from the University of Texas at Brownsville. To me, nursing is an art and art is something that takes time to foster creativity amongst us. Becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is not something that happens overnight taking years of dedication as well as clinical knowledge and skills.

Graduate school interests

With the exceptional FNP training that The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley has to offer, I feel that I will be able to manage and diagnose an array of conditions from acute to chronic. Furthermore, with the completion of school, I intend to open a practice with my wife allowing for more health care access to the people in and around our community. As an FNP I will be a leader in my community and advocate for my patients as well as become a role model. Many years of being in the military and serving in every department at local hospitals I feel have prepared me for the FNP work environment as well as collaborating with physicians.
To the FNP program, I bring the student body professional experiences in multiple departments like Neonatal ICU, Pediatric ICU, Pediatrics, Medical Surgical, Medical Telemetry, Adult ICU, PACU, Mental Health, Case Manager, and Emergency Room in a hospital and in a telephonic setting across the United States. More than any of this I bring an array of characteristics and traits to help me be successful in the FNP program and in my intended job path.
