About

The way the UNC Physician's Assistant program is graded, calculating the GPA was tricky. On the unofficial transcript, the GPA says zero. Here they use the H, P, and LP grading configuration. H is equivalent to an A, where P is equivalent to a B, and LP is equivalent to a C. To calculate the GPA, just added up the grades using the traditional A, B, and C system. I came up with the numbers of 3.36, cumulative GPA, for the classes I have successfully completed.

  • Bronze Star in the US Army

From March of 2015 thru July of 2015, my team and I were responsible for establishing over 200 Afghan Local Police, in our area of operation. This helped to further stabilize the local government in and around Kabul, Afghanistan.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I am planning on going into emergency medicine, or an urgent care type setting. I have previous experience in emergency medicine, and feel it is the best fit for my personality. While I was deployed in Afghanistan in 2012 and 2014, I operated as the sole medical provider to a Operational Detachment Alpha, my team. Being a Special Forces medical sergeant sparked my interest in the medical field, and has directly influenced the type of medicine that I would like to practice in the future.

Graduate school interests

I enjoy participating in small study groups, and donating my time to those of our community who are unable to do it for themselves. My most sought after interest is my family. Of all the things that I enjoy about graduate school, I enjoy my family the most. Since I ended my career in the US Army, to become a family man, I feel that my family is directly tied into my graduate school program. My wife, and 2 sons are the reason that I am pursuing a career as a Physician's Assistant.

Outside the classroom

I enjoy building things with my hands and staying active. I found that I have passion for woodworking. After returning from Afghanistan in 2013, it was recommended by my unit chaplain, to find a hobby that was productive, and satisfying. I began building small items in the beginning, then graduated to bigger furniture, once my skill level began to increase. I am a father of 2 beautiful boys. Grayson 4, and Augustus 2. I consider being a father to be the most important role in my life. I decided to end my military career after 8 years, because my children needed a father, and it is impossible to be a supporting, and caring father, when you are gone for 9 out of the 12 months per year. I absolutely loved serving my country as a Green Beret, but I love being a father far more than being a Green Beret. When it was time to choose, the choice was easy.
