About

My name is Johnnie DeBoe and I started the Oregon State University (OSU) MBA Business Analytics track Spring 2016. I completed my undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering in 2009, joined the Navy, and became a submarine officer. Submarines was my first choice because the community is heavily involved with engineering and their warfare concept can be reduced to a mature game of hide-and-go-seek (which is exciting to me). I now work at OSU's Naval ROTC as an adviser to the midshipmen. My goal is to become a Data Scientist because I have a passion for using analysis to find hidden patterns. I have a beautiful Australian Cattle dog named lady and a love for golf with a handicap bigger than my ego.

Goals and interests

Career goal

My goal is to become a data scientist. I love finding patterns and using machine learning to develop accurate predictions. One of my first machine learning experiences was in the Navy. In 2011, I created a model to calculate how much uranium fuel would be expended at the end of our deployment and was accurate to within 2%. Since then, I have envisioned a career in either a startup or an established tech company that requires data analysis to support informed business decisions.

Graduate school interests

I am currently a graduate student at Oregon State University enrolled in the M.B.A. Business Analytics track. Current graduation date is April 2018. I would like to further pursue a Masters in Electrical Engineering / Computer Science.

Outside the classroom

My hobbies include: playing and writing music, hiking, trail running, and golf.
