About

My name is Jordan, and I am a film and media studies student at Arizona State University. I am working towards a master's degree to allow me into my dream career as a film archivist! As a film buff, I believe it is vital for the current generation to preserve what's left of early cinema for future generations. At the end of the fall 2022 semester, I was on the Dean's honor roll for my academic achievements and ended the semester with a 3.8 GPA.

Goals and interests

Career goal

My goal is to attain a bachelor's and master's degree so that I may be hired as a film archivist. As a film lover, I feel it's essential to maintain what is left of the beginning of the art medium. It is estimated that 95% of what was made in those early days is gone, destroyed, and lost forever. With so many early filmmakers' and actors' careers, we only have a few reels remaining from their entire filmography. I love old and new movies, but more importantly, I love that cinema is reflective of our history and culture as it evolves over time.

Graduate school interests

I would like to go to a school that has a graduate program specifically for moving image preservation, but I am also looking at Library and Archival Science programs as well.

Interested schools:
UCLA - MLIS or Archival Studies
University of Rochester - School of Film Preservation (M.A. or certificate)
NYU - Moving Image Archiving and Preservation (M.A)
University of Arizona - MLIS

Outside the classroom

I love watching movies, playing animal crossing on my switch, and playing with my four-year-old niece and six-year-old nephew! My favorite movie is Kill Bill (Vol 1) because I have always admired the tenacity and fighting ability of the main character, Beatrix Kiddo. Of course, I love all movies, especially the older ones! During the hot Arizona summers, I love swimming morning, noon, and night. Being an online student allows me to do the things I love and spend time with the people I love!

  • Film Critic at the Mesa Legend

A Mesa Community College professor handpicked me to write movie reviews for the student-run college newspaper, The Mesa Legend. Each week, including during covid, I would watch a newly released film and write a review based on my expert knowledge of cinema and pop culture.
