safety coordinator at I have worked as a Safety Assistant at a local construction firm in Accra, where I supported the safety officer in conducting daily site inspections, reporting hazards, and ensuring workers followed safety protocols. My responsibilities included maintaining records of safety incidents, assisting with toolbox talks, and distributing personal protective equipment. This role gave me hands-on experience in identifying potential risks and understanding the importance of compliance with safety regulations on active work sites. I also briefly worked with a logistics company, where I helped implement basic safety procedures in the warehouse, such as organizing equipment safely and ensuring emergency exits were always clear. These job experiences have strengthened my commitment to occupational safety and helped me develop practical skills I aim to expand upon during my studies at GVSU.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
My intended job path is to become a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and work as a Health and Safety Manager or Consultant in industries such as construction, manufacturing, or oil and gas. I want to be on the frontlines of creating and maintaining safe working environments by developing safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Eventually, I hope to take on a leadership role where I can influence policy and train others to prioritize safety in their workplaces. My ultimate goal is to help reduce workplace accidents and promote a culture where every worker goes home safely at the end of the day.
- Graduate school interests
My grad school interest is to further my education in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field such as Environmental Health and Safety Management. I want to build advanced knowledge in safety regulations, hazard control, and leadership so I can take on greater responsibilities in the field. I'm particularly interested in research related to workplace ergonomics, accident prevention strategies, and developing safety programs that are both effective and sustainable. Graduate school will give me the opportunity to deepen my expertise, gain hands-on experience through internships or fieldwork, and prepare me for certifications like CSP or CIH. Ultimately, it’s a step toward becoming a leader and change-maker in the safety profession.
- Outside the classroom
In my free time, I enjoy reading about workplace safety innovations and watching documentaries related to health, engineering, and the environment. I also like volunteering for community clean-up projects and health campaigns, as they allow me to stay active while making a positive impact. Outside of that, I enjoy playing football with friends, listening to music, and learning new skills through online courses , especially those related to safety, leadership, and personal development. These hobbies help me stay balanced and continue growing both personally and professionally.

Volunteering
-
As a volunteer, I’ve taken on roles that reflect my passion for safety and community well-being. I’ve helped organize and participate in community clean-up events, workplace safety awareness campaigns, and local health education workshops. In these roles, I’ve assisted with setting up safety stations, sharing information about personal protective equipment, and encouraging safe practices at home and in public spaces. Volunteering has helped me connect with people from different backgrounds, understand the real-life challenges of safety implementation, and contribute to creating healthier environments. It’s been a way to apply what I care about while giving back to the community.
