Although it took me awhile, I finally realized my own goals in the fall of 2015. I had no clear career goals up until that point. Before, when my high school advisors had asked me what I wanted to do with my life, my responses were unsure. However, after participating in my high school anatomy and physiology class I knew I wanted a career somewhere in the health field. I had finally found something to aspire to, even if the goal was broad, it was a starting point. I started to assess where I was in the long journey of becoming a health care professional. Fortunately, I realized my goal before I started my college education and had time to research the pathway to achieving my goal. Upon further research of my goal, at the time, I found myself overwhelmed at the challenges that awaited me. Some of which include: job shadowing, volunteering, getting involved with extra circular activities, and maintaining a competitive GPA. However, I continued to pursue my goal and planned my pathway accordingly. I have already secured thirty hours of job shadowing, I have become the Vice President of the Optometry club, and I am academically (GPA) in the top seven percent of my freshman class. Along this challenging yet enjoyable journey, I have found much growth in my academic character. Although the tasks laid before me have been challenging so far, I have found myself to be more than capable of accomplishing each one.
