Joshua Mahar

I am currently a high school senior at Starpoint high school in Lockport, NY. As a math/science major, I am always interested in learning, understanding and implementing formulas for problem solving. I am also very active in the music department at Starpoint where I am a member of four different bands. I am currently employed as a cashier at Wegman's food market and, when not in school or work, I'm very active in my church. My core values are based in the Christian teaching, to "Love your neighbor as yourself". For me, this translates into reaching out to others in need, respecting people, and doing so with sincerity and gratitude. Therefore, I try to help people in any way I am able, and is why I participate in several different volunteer activities through my church. I want to help people just as God helped me. Academically, I am grateful for the opportunity to learn, for the support and encouragement of my family, and for the efforts of my teachers. I listen and work hard in my classes out of respect for that opportunity and for the people giving me an education. I am proud to be accepted into the National Honor Society and I want to make an effort to encourage others to see the value in one another, practice kindness and respect, and promote volunteering.
