About

My name is Joshua Tuñón. I am 31 years old, and I am from England and Panama. Due to my father's job posting with the United Nations, I grew up overseas in several Asian countries. My family moved to Dhaka, Bangladesh, when I was two years old, and I attended the American International School of Dhaka (AIS/D) from pre-kindergarten to 10th grade. At AIS/D I excelled in several sports; particularly Soccer. I attempted to fulfill my childhood dream of becoming a professional soccer player, and I briefly attended a renowned Soccer School in my hometown of Manchester, England. After a year in England, I rejoined my parents in Vietnam (my fathers next posting) and finished my high school diploma at the United Nations School in Hanoi.

After high school, I decided to give professional soccer another chance. A top tier soccer team in the Vietnamese premier league recruited me, but after a short time playing I realized that my future lay elsewhere. At the end of 2004, I moved to Beijing, China, to begin a career coaching soccer. After attaining certification and some more experience working with a football club/academy, I landed a job in an international school called Western Academy Beijing (WAB). After seven years working at WAB I worked my way up from coaching elementary soccer teams in the after school program to the position of Middle School Activities Coordinator.

In 2012, I left Beijing for the United States of America to attain a higher education in (my girlfriend's hometown) Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I attended Durham Technical Community College for two years and then transferred to North Carolina Central University. In the winter of 2014, my girlfriend and I got married on the beach in Thailand. We are both educators and we have a well-laid plan for a career in teaching. I am a Senior right now, and I will finish my Bachelors degree in Middle Grades Education in May of 2018.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I am going to be a Middle School Teacher. I am preparing to become a Middle School Science or Social Studies teacher; however my personal preference is to teach Physical education to any age group.
While I really enjoy teaching and interacting with students, my ultimate goal is to one day become an Athletics Director at an international school.

Graduate school interests

I plan on getting my Masters degree in a field in education or administration.

Outside the classroom

My hobbies mainly include sports. I coach and compete in many sports. The sports that I can coach and compete in at an above average level are Soccer, Basketball, Swimming, and several Athletics.
I also enjoy traveling, meditation, book club, and cooking dinner for my lovely wife.
