Goals and interests

Career goal

My intended job path is to pursue a career in social work focused on supporting immigrant and migrant families. I am deeply interested in working directly with communities that face systemic barriers such as language limitations, economic hardship, trauma related to migration, and lack of access to social services.
I plan to work as a social worker or family advocate within nonprofit organizations, community-based agencies, or public institutions that serve immigrant populations. My goal is to provide culturally competent and trauma-informed support to families, helping them navigate social systems such as healthcare, education, housing, and legal resources. I am particularly interested in working with mixed-status families, asylum seekers, and recently arrived immigrants.
In the long term, I hope to contribute to program development and policy advocacy that promotes equity and social justice for migrant communities. By combining direct service with community education and advocacy, I aim to empower families to strengthen their well-being, maintain family unity, and build stability in their new environments.
My lived experiences, bilingual skills, and academic training motivate me to pursue this path, as I believe representation, empathy, and cultural understanding are essential in effective social work practice with immigrant families.

Graduate school interests

My graduate school interests center on pursuing a Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) with a focus on immigrant and migrant family services. I am particularly interested in clinical and community-based practice that addresses the social, emotional, and structural challenges faced by immigrant families, including trauma related to migration, family separation, acculturation stress, and systemic inequities.
During graduate school, I hope to gain specialized training in trauma-informed care, culturally responsive practice, and policy advocacy. I am interested in coursework and field placements that emphasize working with marginalized communities, especially bilingual and bicultural service delivery. I also seek opportunities to develop skills in case management, family counseling, crisis intervention, and community outreach.
