Justin Buck

I currently have six years of teaching experience in Spanish, Student Council, and ESL. I am highly determined and an intrinsically motivated learner. As the only bilingual educator among grades 6-12 in my school, I have had ample opportunities through the role of an interpreter to educate myself on such issues as data collection/analysis, intervention strategies, educational law, dynamics of special programs offered. As a high school Student Council Sponsor, I have taught leadership and student collaboration to address many student, school, and community needs by offering services and volunteering. It was a former passion in psychology and these experiences that peaked my interest in the school counseling profession.
In a few weeks, I will graduate, with honors (Summa Cum Laude), from The University of Texas at Tyler, successfully completing a Masters Degree in School Counseling. Upon completion the school counseling program, I intend to enroll in The University of North Texas' doctorate program in Counseling Psychology and specialize in the area of child and family counseling. The fact that I am a single father with a three year old son is at the root of my career and educational goals. The manner in which our family came to be just the two of us has worried me for my son's sake. I know that with current trends, there are many other people and situations similar to ours. I want to serve those people (and myself) who strive to help their children overcome any obstacles or unwanted experiences and allow them to develop to their full potential.
