About

Hello! My name is Kaitlynn McGettigan and I am currently enrolled in the Culinary Nutrition Bachelor's program at Johnson & Wales University in Denver, Colorado. Ever since I was a child, I wanted to help people. That desire shifted my interests from wanting to be a teacher to medically helping people as a physician assistant. However, after going through my own medical issues, I discovered that I did not want to be as intimately involved with life or death situations. I was inspired to go into the field of nutrition by mother as she found inventive ways to get me to eat a wider variety of foods. The techniques she used were drawn from her education and experience she received at Johnson & Wales University. The nutrition field is more than just knowing what to eat, it is understanding, at the cellular level, how our health is affected by nutrition. It also provides me the opportunity to educate people, which in turn may improve their over all health. I am intrigued by the strong scientific base and problem solving skills required for this field. The Culinary Nutrition Bachelor’s Program has an innovative curriculum with practical application methods. An impressive aspect of this program is the combination of science, research, and the knowledge of culinary methods. As a Chef, Nutritionist not only will I be able to advise individuals on healthy food choices, but also coach them in healthier methods of cooking.

After I receive my Bachelors from Johnson & Wales University, I plan to continue my education by gaining my Master’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and possibly continuing on a PhD, which focuses on cellular nutrition.

Masters of Dietetics and possibly continuing on to PhD in cellular nutrition.

Outside the classroom

In my free time, I spend a lot of time on writing stories on a site called fanfiction.net. I have multiple stories posted on that site with loyal reviewers that enjoy my writing. I'm using this writing as a way to improve my writing and explore different subjects before applying my skills to a story of my own creation.
