Goals and interests

Career goal

My intended job path is to become a medical doctor specializing in psychiatric medicine. I am currently building on my nursing diploma and licensure as a Registered Mental Health Nurse, with the goal of progressing into a full medical degree. I chose this path because mental illness remains critically underserved worldwide due to a shortage of trained professionals, and the gap is even more severe in Uganda. My long-term goal is to help close that gap by becoming a psychiatrist who can provide both clinical treatment and broader systemic support for mental health care in underserved communities.

Graduate school interests

My graduate school interests center on psychiatric medicine and global mental health. I am seeking to build on my nursing diploma and clinical experience as a Registered Mental Health Nurse by pursuing a medical degree, with specialization in psychiatry. I am particularly interested in programs that combine clinical psychiatric training with public health or health systems coursework, since my goal extends beyond individual patient care to addressing the structural shortage of mental health professionals in underserved regions, especially Uganda. I am also drawn to research and coursework in community-based mental health interventions, crisis care, and trauma-informed treatment models, areas I have already engaged with through my clinical work and volunteer service.
