Volunteering

As a challenge in my ag class, my agricultural education instructor gave me $5 and encouraged us to find a way to change our community. I received donations from several businesses for a animal rescue called Horse & Hound that took in off the track race horses and stray or abused dogs. I spent time repairing fence, grooming horses, cleaning water and feed buckets, as well as cleaning stalls.

This year, I founded the Book it to the Pasture program. In this service project, I received multiple educational grants to purchase agriculturally accurate books that were placed in a book case at the Stillwater Milling Company. Here, kids can check out books, read them, and return them back to the bookcase. I wanted to engage the younger generations in FFA and this reading program is the perfect way to approach them.

For the past 4 years, I have volunteered at the Oklahoma City Regional Food Bank to volunteer several hours of our time to benefit those in the central region of Oklahoma. I spent time packaging, weighing, and organizing non-perishable food items for needy Oklahomans. I have had the privilege of going several times and it truly is one of my favorite things to do.

The Stillwater FFA Chapter took the initiative to help those that suffer during the holiday season. Our chapter purchased a large flock of turkeys that we took turns feeding, maintaining, and managing during the school year and during the Summer time. During the beginning of the holiday season, we butchered the turkeys and sent them to be processed. While we waited for the plethora of birds to be processed, we arranged and held a canned food drive. In time for Thanksgiving, we were able to deliver full Thanksgiving meals to those who are less fortunate in our community.

I had the opportunity to take my miniature horses and show goats to the Department of Human Services petting zoo. This petting zoo was a part of a larger party that orphans in Payne County could come to and introduce themselves to those who were looking to adopt. I gave pony rides and taught them simple facts about each animal.

Hobbies

I spend a majority of my free time traveling all over Oklahoma competing in rodeos. Rodeo plays a tremendous role in my life and it is one of my favorite things to do. In addition to participating in rodeo, I exhibit Boer goats along side my two younger sisters. This is an excellent bonding activity that allows each of us to build on to our work ethic.
