Goals and interests

Career goal

I plan to enter the medical field and become an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with specialty training in pediatrics. My interest in this field is rooted in Health science classes I have taken, an injury I sustained, and working with children from my church.
The function of the human body and mind have always fascinated me. During high school, I took Introduction to Health, Anatomy and Physiology, and Diagnostic Medicine. My favorite of the three was Diagnostic Medicine because it was more hands-on learning, and I developed a special interest in the function of the heart and blood. Interestingly, the terminology I learned in my health classes helped me to understand discussions with my doctors when I had a concussion.
With my concussion, I had the most spectacular doctor; he was optimistic, curious, intelligent, and empathetic. In addition, while he is involved with his family and church, he also finds the time to do the things he loves. He has really been an inspiration for me because of how well he does his job and how impressively he balances work and home. My doctor has inspired me to pursue a career in nursing. After I decided my interest of study, I had to decide what age group I wanted to treat.
Once I was old enough, I got involved with the babies and younger children at my church. First, I started out helping in the nursery as much as I could. I began to learn the babies’ routines and took care of them during service. Next, I decided I wanted to try teaching older age groups, so I occasionally taught children, ages four to seven. After being with the kids, I always felt energized and in high spirits. Volunteering to serve and teach in my church led me to want to pursue a career in pediatrics.
I am excited to start my college journey, and I am thankful for everything that has led me to this point.

Outside the classroom

My hobbies include playing basketball, painting, listening to music, and baking sweets.
