Volunteering

  • Teen Volunteer, Gardener, Cook, Florist A garden to table food prep & delivery program centered on youth involvement & sustainability, Ceres is a program that hand-prepares and packages meals for healing community members. This includes, diabetic, cancer, pregnant and postpartum, and other recovering patients in the community I tended in the garden (harvesting food & flowers) & in the kitchen making or packaging food. Each session, we would participate in a circle discussion to learn about a new food or global topic, such as Climate Change, and sustainable ways to help the environment. Unfortunately, due to mandated schedule changes at the program, I was unable to continue my volunteering after October of senior year.

  • Peer Editor The Viking Writing Center is a school-sanctioned tutoring club of seniors who have previously succeeded in honors English classes. We offer aid to lowerclassmen to better their essay & research paper writing. I help equip them with tools needed for proper formatting to prepare them for success in IB or Honors classes, as well as formulating theses, developing ideas, and other helpful writing techniques.

  • A community outreach program I established (2020), I hand-make anonymous cards so Meals on Wheels recipients know someone’s thinking of them, even at a distance. Meals on Wheels is a national organization that provides packaged meals to homebound citizens who physically, mentally, or financially are unable to provide food for themselves. I include thoughtful, handwritten messages & decorative covers to brighten someone’s day with my cards. I deliver at least 50 cards every other month, taking at least 10 hours to complete, to the Meals on Wheels office for distribution. I plan on continuing this program in college with a local Meals on Wheels office, or equivalent organization.
