Kristopher Van Meter

I am a geoscience major, Spanish minor at Indiana University Southeast with goals to improve small scale sustainable agriculture in developing countries to reduce deforestation of the tropical rainforest. I plan to achieve my masters at Colorado State University through service in the Peace corps in Central or South America. Through service during my future travels I will look to establish relationships with natives to better understand their cultures to incorporate them into existing sustainable practices.

I practice organic gardening at my home at the edge of the Hoosier National Forest in Indiana and am an amateur beekeeper. I raise chickens for my family with plans to expand to various other types of game foul in the coming years before graduation. I have spent my past years outside of school improving skills in the area of home steading and have slowly been applying them to various projects around my families' property with plans to continue while I remain here. In 2016 I will be a junior and intend to study in Peru which will allow me to graduate abroad and learn more of the organic practices that are being applied there providing me with a better understanding of environmental issues they face.
