About
Hello,
My name is Lafayette Jones, and I am proud to be an African-Mexican first-generation college student. The fusion of my diverse heritage traces back to Kenya, Africa, and Jalisco, Mexico, which truly shapes my unique identity. This rich tapestry of ethnicity plays a vital role in shaping my personal narrative, as it fuels my deep-rooted desire to make a meaningful impact on the lives of people of color.
Driven by an unwavering passion for science, I am determined to pursue a career that revolves around providing efficient and effective healthcare services to low-income families. My ultimate goal is to bridge the gap in healthcare disparities, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their economic background, has access to quality medical care.
Moreover, I have always had a natural affinity for children, establishing a genuine connection that goes beyond words. The thought of positively influencing the lives of young individuals fuels the fire within me, as I envision leveraging my scientific expertise to create effective and efficient healthcare for low-income families.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
As I advance in my professional journey, my ultimate ambition is to fulfill my dream of becoming a pediatrician. Growing up in a Mexican family that faced numerous obstacles during the process of immigrating to the United States and striving tirelessly to establish their citizenship and rights, I have witnessed firsthand the hardships and challenges that families like mine go through. Furthermore, I have personally witnessed the impact that quality healthcare can have on individuals and their families. In particular, my own grandfather, a US citizen, bravely battled cancer, and it was through the dedicated efforts and unwavering respect of his medical team that his tumor was successfully removed, despite the fact that the surgical success rate for such cases is typically no more than 30%. These deeply personal experiences have undeniably left a profound imprint on my heart, instilling within me a sense of admiration and reverence for the field of medicine. It is with this passion and unwavering determination that I aspire to specialize in pediatrics, with the sole aim of providing equitable, compassionate, and effective healthcare to children and their families who are in need.

In my current stage of life, which is during my twenties, I find great pleasure in seeking out and crafting unique experiences. A significant portion of my time is devoted to spending quality moments with my family, engaging in enjoyable endeavors such as embarking on local road trips and exploring captivating viewpoints in the western region. I possess a deep passion for expressing my innermost thoughts and emotions through various creative outlets. This artistic side of mine is often manifested through activities such as painting, drawing, and composing heartfelt written poetry. Additionally, I take immense delight in other forms of outdoor recreation, including hiking.
