About

Originally from the Waco, Texas area, I have now lived in Dallas since 2009. I currently work at Eastfield College in Mesquite. I wear several hats there, but the common thread is: Student Success. I work in the Student Services area and I also work as an adjunct for both Eastfield and El Centro Colleges. I teach General Psychology and Learning Frameworks.

I have been on my own since 16, married at 19, divorced at 22. I have always been financially responsible for my education and it's been tough. So I am grateful for this opportunity to be a part of such an awesome organization. I realize I need to slow down and put more focus on finishing my doctorate, but of course I have responsibilities so I must work.

I am currently in the Doctoral Program- Higher Education Leadership at Texas A&M Commerce. I am determined to finish this last major degree. The financial obligations for this degree are quite the heavy burden, but I will do the best that I can so that I can finish in a timely fashion. I am proud of the great GPA I have maintained, on top of the jobs I hold down.

  • Outstanding New Student Club

I was the original coordinator for the Sister 2 Sister Female Mentorship Program at El Centro College. We did a lot of events that gained campus notoriety. It also raised our group participation numbers.

  • Outstanding Local Chapter TABPHE

The TABPHE (Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education) Dallas Chapter received this honor at the 2013 State Conference. As the president of the chapter, I worked to revitalize the group by recruitment of local colleagues.

  • Outstanding Local Chapter President

received because of my efforts in the revitalization of the TABPHE Dallas Local Chapter

Goals and interests

Career goal

I plan to retire in higher education so I have my eyes set on the path of Administrative positions. The long term goal- College President. I also love the classroom so I can see myself staying connected to students in that way as an adjunct. Somewhere along the way, though, I may venture into the classroom full-time, to get that full exposure to the faculty side.

Graduate school interests

My main interests are to gain the knowledge I need to perform the skills for my rising career in higher ed. I also want to meet other like minded people to build a network.

I do hope to be able to attend some events on campus.

Outside the classroom

Writing, singing, volunteering, spending time with my niece & nephew

I also enjoy dining, going to movies, & traveling.
