About

I am currently employed as an eighth grade Science teacher at Hoffman Middle School located in Houston, TX. With this position, I am responsible for teaching, empowering, and guiding over 130 students through a successful year and on to high school. This position has been one of the most rewarding jobs I have held in my career. I get the opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life at a time when they are getting to know themselves and gaining more independence. At the end of the year, I get to see the results of my students’ hard work and celebrate their successes and discuss ways to help them navigate through difficult obstacles.

I am also a leader in the Mississippi Air National Guard. I hold the rank of a First Lieutenant. With this position, I lead a team of airmen in training over 1,000 airmen in Equal Opportunity and Human Relations programs. I have been in this position for over seven years and assisted personnel in the complaint process and team work activities.

During my career in the military, I have received several rewards for my dedication and work for my base. I have been selected as Airmen of the Quarter and Non-commissioned Officer of the Quarter. As an officer, I have received accolades for starting a junior officer council for young and new officers to have a voice in the military.

My long term professional and career goals in education are to continue teaching eighth grade Science until I have earned my Masters in School Counseling. I would like to obtain an internship as I near graduation so that I may focus on providing children with guidance and a listening ear. I plan to spend the remainder of my career in education as a school counselor assisting students by providing a variety of resources to help them throughout the school year. I want to work with elementary or middle school students. I chose this major because I want to make more of an impact in student lives. As a counselor, I would have more resources to assist students from all walks of life in education and personal situations. Over the past two years of my teaching career, I have seen a number of students face challenges that hinder their progress in education. I would like to be able to help them cope with these challenges and be successful in school.
