About

I am a living testimony that it is never too late to pursue your dreams. I married early in life and remained a faithful supporter of my husband as he battled drug addiction. After giving birth and losing my second child, I realized it was time to make a change for myself and for the son I was left to raise alone. I enrolled in an online University in order to continue to work and obtain a degree. It has taken me 7 years to graduate while battling other difficult life changes. 7 is the number of completion. I had to reduce my course load at times, but I refused to quit. Through my own personal passions and the obstacles I have faced in life, it is my dream to pass on the knowledge and resources I was in need of as a young woman, a mother and a student. My studies in sociology and criminal justice have allowed me to devise a business plan that will help my dream become a reality, not just for myself, but for many that have dreams as I do. I will be an active community service worker, provider and supporter. I will continue to obtain knowledge and resources to strengthen my community.

Goals and interests

Career goal

My intended job path is varied. I would love to work closely with law enforcement in victim services. I would also like to work with the Department of Health and Environmental Services for preventative education. My long term goal is to establish a non profit organization specifically for single mothers between the ages of 12 and 25. Women are becoming mothers at younger ages these days and I have found that without proper support, education and resources, these mothers go on to become impoverished, have more children and trade in a college degree for employment that barely makes the bills. I plan to reduce infant mortality, illiteracy rates and increase high school and college graduation through my program.

Graduate school interests

It is my goal to obtain my Masters Degree in Social Work and Education as I love to teach and help others. I plan to enroll in a masters program no later than one year after obtaining my bachelors degree.
