Leiri Melendez

I would like to practice in my future profession as a Physiatrist and have my office. I have always been helping girls who play the same sport that I currently practice and can help them fulfill their dreams. Right now in my town I work with some low-income girls that live in a really poor neighborhood. I teach them volleyball and we play, but more than that I let them know that in me they have a sister that they can count on for anything and that I will be there to give them the best advice. The purpose of this is to be able to remove them from where they are and to distract the mind but at the same time developing them in the volleyball sport so that in the future through that they can get their studies. I love doing this to see girls growing in all aspects as a player and person. My biggest goal or dream is to be able to do a volleyball school and at the same time it would be a regular school. I would do it to develop talent on my island. Like there are baseball schools in Puerto Rico. I would like to start with the public school girls since the public schools in Puerto Rico are totally different from those of the United States. I am not happy until I see my goals achieved and made perfect. What I intend to do I do well and the best possible since my parents have taught me to be a young woman who stands out for excellent work and for being hardworking as they have done.

I have many plans for my future. In my academic or study plans, I would want to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Sports Management and Business. Personally, I want to practice as a Physiatrist in my future and have my office. When I finish my baccalaureate of Biology I want to do a concentration in Rehabilitation at the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Pidras and then move to any University that is good in physiotherapy

In my hobbies is playing volleyball because through this sport I can study in a college. Another of my hobbies is reading the bible and attending the Church since that is what makes me stay where I am today and I feed myself to be a better person more and more. Also in my free time I go to the gym to exercise and be prepared for my sport. Like I like to watch TV but it is more to see news and everything that is happening on my island. Sometimes I do community service in some nonprofit organizations. But my favorite hobbie is having time to share with my family. For me that is the most valuable time I have.
