Mechielah Lewis

I am a freshman attending Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to pursue a career in teaching. I am from a small town in Kansas and have moved quite a lot during my childhood. I graduated from Wagoner High School in 2014 in Wagoner, Oklahoma. I have always held a rather high interest in languages and cultures that are both commonly and uncommonly practiced. I became bilingual a couple of years ago and can now fluently speak both English and Spanish (Spanish being my second language). I am also trying to learn Portuguese. During high school, I have voluntarily been a Spanish tutor for my peers who were needing help with their course(s). While working at a restaurant during my junior year, I had Hispanic coworkers who could not speak English very well, so many times I would translate for my boss so as to expand an understanding between employer and employee; it was a plus making more friends as well with whom I could speak with my newly developed language skills. I yearn to travel and study abroad at some point during, or after, my college years.
