About
Lourena is currently a Senior Bioethics Major, Philosophy Minor, 2x Deans List Scholar at Howard University. As a passionate and self-drive scholar who consistently drives growth in local communities through grassroots organizing, dynamic leadership, and extensive scholarship in philosophy, Lourena is active on campus through the leadership role of Student Director for Black Eudaimonia. A hiking wellness organization on campus created to empower students in seeking liberation and community service. She also serves on the Howard University Student Journal of Philosophy as an Interview Liaison. Lourena holds membership in groups such as National Student Bioethics Association, Womxn of the Mecca, Halo G.R.E.E.N Garden, and African Student Association.
Her research currently focuses on exploring the relationship between ethics and medicalizing psychedelics for clinical research and therapeutic treatment. Through a passion of philosophy, and implementing ethical guidelines for sufficient medical practice, she aims to cultivate a more holistic, equitable approach to medicine and healing with the goal of eradicating medical injustice. Her multifaceted skillset in marketing, and leadership allows for opportunities aligned in social justice efforts, scholarship, and research.
After obtaining her B.A. in May of 2023, Lourena plans to attend graduate school to study philosophy.
