About

Biomedical Engineering has always been beautiful to me, always being able to drag me into another world for long periods. This stems from the fact that the topic has the vast creative expanses of robotics while the complexity of the living element added onto it. I’m specifically referring to the fact that Biomedical Engineering leans on the use of robots or machine equipment on living organisms. From a young age, I’ve always been extremely interested in the functions of electronics and robotics, eventually evolving into an interest in the application of it for organisms. I am still exploring which direction I'm interested in pursuing—whether that be medical equipment, prosthetics, or something else.

Volunteering

  • I volunteered monthly with my group at either a mobile pantry or distribution center to sort donated food or pack Senior Meals. I recruited and organized students and parents at my school. My volunteering has not only helped others in my community, but it has also helped me. Specifically, it has helped me develop many new skills that I didn't have before, including social skills and leadership to recruit and organize my group. I have also learned how certain places run, who they impact, and how they receive funds. I've grown close to people I've met during my experiences.

  • CT’s Beardsley Zoo Explorers: high school students have the opportunity to work side by side with field biologists, study the role of zoos in conservation and help educate the zoo’s visitors. This is a year-long program with the opportunity for greatest involvement during the summer months. I have learned a great deal about how the zoo functions, the many careers involved, and information about the animals. I volunteered 2 hours monthly and weekly in the Summer to educate Zoo visitors about the animals, important topics, and answer questions.
