Luz Ventura Mena

I am a John Jay College student majoring in Criminal Justice located in New York City. I am studying to one day become a police officer and then a Crime Detective Unit supervisor. I am from the Dominican Republic. I came first to live in the USA when I was 16 years old with my two brothers and my single mother who works really hard as HHA for us to be able to achieve a decent education and have better opportunities than she ever once had. My oldest brother pursued his bachelor's degree (computer technician) at Lehman College and my youngest brother is pursuing his associate in Criminal Justice at Bronx Community College. I currently am doing an internship as an NYPD Police Cadet. This internship has given me the opportunities to gain experiences as well as to contemplate what a police officer works look like from his point of view and how hard and close they work together with the communities to make it as safe as possible.
