About

Hello, I'm Shirley Holcomb, a proud Filipina with 53 years of stories to share. I live at Welsh Drive in Reno, NV. Right now, I'm studying to become an LPN at Unitek College's Reno Campus. It's a dream I'm working hard to achieve.

I've been married to my husband, Shawn Holcomb, for 19 years. We've been blessed with four wonderful kids - two boys and two girls - and two sweet grandsons. Our family has faced tough times. Just this June 27, 2023, I was out of job.

A ray of light has shone on us. I started working at the Northern Nevada Medical Center on Prater Way in Sparks as a per diem employee since September 15, 2023. My husband, Shawn, faced his own challenges. He was unwell, but he held our family together as a stay-at-home Dad, caring for our kids and grandsons.

For a long time, we had only one car. It carried us through life's ups and downs, shuttling me to work and our kids to school every single day. Shawn eventually found a job as a delivery driver at STXlogistex, working 25 - 40 hours a week but was laid off just recently.

Our finances have been a tight squeeze, especially now. Since August 2022, we've been renting a house in North Valley for $2,900 a month. Our eldest son, a true blessing, chipped in $1,000, but in March 2023, he moved out with his girlfriend. Now, we're on our own.

Bills pile up, and our credit cards are stretched thin. Sometimes no money to pay for gas, to buy foods , to pay some school bills and to pay utilities.

That's why I'm reaching out for a scholarship or financial help . It could be the lifeline we need. Please, consider helping me and my family. Your support could mean the world to us. Thank you.
