Maidot Bekele

I am an international freshman student at Minnesota state university mankato with a major Electrical and Electronic Engineering. I choose this major because Engineering has been my passion since I was a kid. I wondered how everything we use is made; starting from the small atomic particles to the large electronic devices we are using now were like mystery for me. Growing up in a society where women are meant for marriage and become a housewife who serves for her husband made me to hold on my dreams so that, I can proof them they were wrong, we were not just meant to be housewifes' but a great influencers for the world's modernization and innovations.

I studied my primary education at a small school found in our village then I went for my secondary school to Deborah School, after I studied there just for a year my parents couldn't afford the payment plus it was far to our house then I changed school starting from grade 10th; cheaper and nearer. It was Hill Side School I liked my new school, the organizations there, activities and education system. So, I graduated high school from Hill Side School. I was one of the top students during my studies both in primary and secondary schools. I started to chase my dream by participating in science fair projects and science clubs during my leisure times. I participated for national mathematics competition (Calculating numbers using brain with in a short period of time), representing my school when I was in primary school and made our school a winner from nation wide.

After some grades I realized my dream which was nanotechnology engineering, when I searched and found out more about the subject, the more I was attracted to it. Sad thing, it was not even heard in my country so I started a study abroad application and succeed to somewhat level though the subject is not given at undergraduate level.
I can make it for my post graduate degree if I have degrees of some specific fields and Electrical and Electronic Engineering was one of them. The world's new technology, AI and robotics are literally impacted by the work of Engineers and I want to be one of the influencers and impactors of our world's progress.
