About
I began my nursing education at Copiah Lincoln Community College where I was a member of Phi Theta Kapa. I then continued my nursing education at Mississippi State University where I was on the President's list there. I attended Copiah Lincoln Community College and Southwest Mississippi Community College in the summer to continue with my education. I then applied and was accepted to University Of Mississippi Medical Center's School of Nursing and was accepted. While there I was also in the Honor Society. Upon graduation I knew I wanted to continue my education to be a pediatric nurse practionier. I felt if I worked for a little while and then applied to go back to school the experience would make me a better nurse practitioner.
While a student at UMMC SON I noticed that some of the patients parents would not be able to tell us the children's temperature before coming to the ER nor how long the patient had fever before coming to the ER.
I requested permission to purse the need and create a project to raise funds to provide thermometers to parents to use at home. I recruited another student and we designed a t-shirt to sell to raise funds to provide this need. I obtained a vendor to get the shirts printed and took orders once the orders were in I delivered the t-shirts and ordered thermometers to distribute to patients parents or guardians.
