Marcus Young

Hi my name Marcus Young I am a 17 year old in J Sterling Morton west in high school. I am currently an NHS member and recently became a member of NHS scholars. For 3 of my high school years I have been taking automotive mechanics classes and I have been involved with automotive mechanics club. I have been the leader of the club for 2 years now. Ever since I was a little kid I have had a mind of an engineer. I look at something and I want to know how something works I want to tinker with it and see if I can make it better. When I got to work on my first car I was overwhelmed there was so much mechanical and technical parts working together to make the car run. As I looked more into it I realized I want to continue working on cars and move my way up to bigger vehicles.
Mechanics has always intrigued me but I want to go past working on cars. I want to go to something bigger I want to be an aviation mechanic. I want to be aviation mechanic not just for working on planes, but because planes are a huge part of our economy. Planes carry both people and cargo in-and-out of the country. By working on the planes I'm doing more than just fixing a couple cars a-day and making a small difference, instead I'm doing more and putting more into the world. Right now aviation mechanics are in high demand it is estimated that 35.000 more aviation mechanics are going to be needed by the year 2035. If I could be one of those 35.000 then I could at least make some difference in the world.
