About

My name is Maria Greding, and I live in southern Indiana with my husband and our four pets. Originally from Wisconsin, I relocated to the Louisville area thirteen years ago. Outside of work and graduate studies, I remain actively involved in supporting Veterans and their families through the American Legion Auxiliary, where I serve as secretary and treasurer. With several Veterans in my family, including a brother currently serving in the Navy, this work is a meaningful way for me to give back.
I began my healthcare career in 2000 as a CNA, gaining early experience in long‑term care before transitioning to the hospital setting during nursing school. In my final year, I served as a nurse technician alongside an RN preceptor, an experience that provided invaluable hands‑on preparation for practice. I completed my ADN in 2005 and started my nursing career on a medical‑surgical unit before moving into dialysis in 2007. Over the next decade, I advanced from floor nurse to Divisional Director of Clinical Services, overseeing clinical quality, compliance, and education across multiple sites.
In 2017, I accepted the opportunity to open a new wound care and hyperbaric medicine clinic within a major Louisville health system. Despite initial hesitation, I quickly developed a passion for wound management and remained the center director until December 2024. I earned my wound care certification in early 2024, which strengthened my commitment to pursuing advanced practice education and expanding my ability to care for medically complex, high‑risk patients.

Goals and interests

Career goal

My passion is to lead the development of an Amputation Prevention Nurse Practitioner (APNP) role to integrate early risk identification, coordinated specialty referrals, patient education, and outcome tracking into a cohesive model of care for high‑risk dialysis patients. Through my coursework, I have begun formalizing evidence‑based protocols, interdisciplinary communication pathways, and a framework for proactive screening. The APNP role aims to “bridge these gaps by integrating early identification, risk-stratified monitoring, patient education, coordinated referrals, and case management into a cohesive model of care.”
