About

I am a highly motivated candidate willing to fulfill a challenging part time job while studying my career at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. I am applying for this scholarship in order to further my studies in Criminal Justice. The organizations that I participated in are at the Criminal Justice Club of the school in the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015, my internship was at the Sheriff department of Hidalgo County for the Fall of 2015. Volunteering with these organizations has made me discover my passion for the law enforcement field and at the same time I’m very motivated into showing future generations that they can always make their dreams come true. My long-term goal is to work as a Law Enforcement Officer. My academic, work and personal experiences have led me to this career goal. Being a single mother living in mental accommodation throughout the course, and I have successfully been able to juggle a part time job while taking three classes.
Though I have been granted financial aid the same amount as last year, in my current predicament this is not enough to cover tuition. Therefore, I ask special consideration for a reduction in tuition. I have done the best I can to support my daughter and earning this degree is very important for me and my daughter’s future as well as for the young people. My enclosed transcripts show that I am excelling in every area and maintained a very good grade point average. My mission is to see women empowered to make life-affirming choices for themselves and their children through compassionate care, education and support. The world is full of opportunities for me to practically apply my education and now because of Honors Society, I feel like my dreams are more within reach than ever before.

Goals and interests

Career goal

My intended job path is working towards law enforcement. U.S. Customs officer position is my goal to work for a federal career. I would like to protect our country's economy, residents, jobs, environment, etc., by controlling the flow of goods, especially restrictive and prohibited goods, into and out of the country.

Graduate school interests

For my grad school, I would really enjoy becoming a chief at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. I would enjoy to be held numerous leadership positions over the years, including Supervisory Border Patrol Agent, Operations Supervisor; and Assistant Patrol Agent in Charge. It would enlighten me to posses a CBP as our nation's unified border agency.

Outside the classroom

Sleeping, spending time with family and reading.
