About

My name is Maria Valdez, I am currently studying Bilingual Education EC- 6 at University of Texas at San Antonio. I am from Acuna Coahuila, MX. I was raised in Mexico until I was 10 years old. After that, my father made me an American Citizen. My family moved to a small border town called Del Rio, TX. I remember when I was on my way to my first day of school in the U.S. I was really scared because I did not know any English at all. When I got there I was surprised to see that most of the students knew Spanish. It was a very cultural shook for me because I felt relieved. I started having Bilingual classes and those classes helped me the most learn English. I want to be a Bilingual Teacher because I want to be the type of teacher that support and help the students that are in the situation that I was. I want to help my students learn English and at the same time grow in their native language so they can become bilingual.
