About
My name is Maria Velazquez, and my family migrated to Texas when I was fifteen years old. I am married and have four children. I am a teacher, and with a passion for learning, I consider myself a determined and hardworking individual who strives to accomplish her goals.
Navigating the challenges of learning a new language as an English language learner has given me a unique perspective, allowing me to empathize with students as they develop the essential language skills needed for both educational and personal success. I firmly believe that education is the key to success, which is one of the reasons I decided to return to school to pursue a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
The experience of taking classes together has created a beautiful bond between my two oldest children and me. They are also taking college courses, and I love that we can discuss our classes, homework, and upcoming assignments. My husband is a truck driver and is away from home most of the time, but my older children help me manage the household and drive their younger sisters where they need to go. We work together—we make a great team.
I am trying to teach my children that with perseverance and hard work, anything is possible.

My future plans are clear: my vocation to positively impact lives has always been the driving force behind
my career, and I am eager to channel this passion into the field of speech-language pathology. I plan to
continue working in the school system as a Speech- Language Pathologist. I also aspire to use my
bilingual abilities and cultural understanding to deliver equitable and impactful support to individuals
facing communication challenges. Ultimately, my goal is to empower children with language and
