About

First I’d like to begin by saying, thank you for this opportunity to reach my dream. If there was one thing to know about me, it would be that I am a hard worker. School was difficult for me as a child, so I needed to be in an IEP program from 4th grade through 7th grade. Half way through 7th grade though, I knew I didn’t need that program and I challenged myself to get honor role, and I did! Since then, I have had no help and no outside motivation academically, except from myself!
Some of my other activities and accomplishments are that I have earned my black belt in karate by the time I got into 9th grade. After that, I was on my high school swim team and water polo team 10th grade through graduation. Most kids dropped out because of the amount of time and energy that the two sports required. I loved it! I also love children, so I volunteer my time every week at my church to babysit in the infant/toddler room during our service time. I have been serving in the children’s area at church since I was in 4th grade. Knowing that I can help out my congregation with this service and get my kid fix is priceless.
Time management has been the key to my success. Most people can barley handle being a full time student. But I have been a full time student for about two years, and have been able to work a full time job as well! I have pored all my energy, time, and money into my academics. I am ready for the next step in my life. Which is achieving my goal in becoming an Occupational therapist.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I have always wanted to go into the medical therapy field, since the fourth grade, believe it or not. Compassion is a major part in why I’ve wanted to become an occupational therapist. My heart is drawn to children and the elderly. I love knowing that I will be able to combine my two passions; rehabilitation of the body and loving on people, at the same time!
Knowing that I can study the human body and ways on which I can non-surgically help another human being to have less pain and be able to enjoy life to the fullest. That is a true high! I’m excited that I will be able to learn noninvasive creative techniques and manipulations of the muscles and the joints, through this program.
With this education, I plan on working in the hospital setting. This way I will be exposed to a greater variety of people and their physical problems. I would care, not just about the patient’s success rate, but also about the patient as a person. This dream of mine won’t happen though, without the exemplary education that I know I can receive through UIC’s Occupational Therapy program.
