About

My name is Mariel Cabeza, I was born in Lima, Peru and moved to the United States when I was nine years old. I lived in Miami, Florida for five years and currently, I am residing in Fargo, North Dakota. I am a student at North Dakota State University, and I am going for pre-med route. I aspire to become a pediatrician in a near future since I feel like children would make my workplace 10 times better, that is why for my community service I decided to volunteer at a children autism center since it would allow me to know how to act and deal with children who have autism which would allow me to become a better doctor on a near future. I would be interested in becoming a child surgeon or working in the eating disorder department since it's something I struggled with personally and would like to aid others in need of assistance to overcome this disorder.

Goals and interests

Career goal

My dream has always been to become a pediatrician, I would love to become either a pediatric surgeon or I would like to be involved on eating disorder department.

Graduate school interests

I would like to graduate from NDSU and be able to attend to a well-known medical school and be able to start my journey onto becoming a doctor, specifically a pediatrician. During grad school I would love to continue being involved with my university such as continue being a learning assistant or might even consider becoming a teacher assistant, since it would not only benefit me as a student my reinforcing my knowledge about a certain topic, but also it would allow me to help other students. I would also be interested onto doing research with faculty members.

Outside the classroom

Since COVID-19 I decided to make wiser decisions and start incorporating healthier habits into my lifestyle therefore one of my hobbies is exercise, I try to exercise regularly from 1-2 hours a day and my favorite exercise is dance. Other activities I enjoy doing are drawing and baking, despite my busy schedule I am allowed to incorporate it into my routine since at the Autism Center I volunteer at the Enrichment Center and I aid on activities dealing with arts & crafts, STEM projects, and cooking.
