About

My name is Maron Yousif, and my journey has been anything but ordinary. I am a refugee from war-torn Iraq, where my family and I faced incredible adversity. After fleeing the violence, I spent six months sleeping in an alleyway in Jordan before finding refuge in the United States. I grew up on Detroit’s rough east side, where I watched many of my friends lose their lives to drugs, criminal, and gang activity. Despite these challenges, I started working at the age of 12 to support my family, all while holding on to the belief that education would be my way forward.

Returning to education after years of hardship has been a pivotal moment in my life. I am currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, where I maintain a 3.978 GPA. Recently, I’ve been invited to apply to Columbia University, along with several other Ivy League and prestigious private institutions in California, to further my education in this field.

My roots run deep in the Chaldean community, where Neo-Aramaic is my first language. I am actively involved in leading a "Get Out the Vote" (GOTV) campaign for my community, focusing on registering elderly members who still believe they cannot vote because they think they are still living in Iraq. This initiative is close to my heart, as it empowers those who often feel voiceless in today’s society.

In addition to my academic pursuits, I run Lemon Pepper Holdings LLC, a consulting firm dedicated to transforming the restaurant industry. Despite the hardships I've faced, I have always found a way to push forward, balancing my professional life, community service, and education. My ultimate goal is to integrate my skills in technology and business, using my experiences to make a positive impact on the world.

Thank you for considering me for honors society recognition and scholarship opportunities. I am committed to making the most of every opportunity life presents, and I am grateful for the chance to continue my journey of learning and growth.
