About

I am currently a student at Clemson University, set to graduate in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in English August of 2015. Some wonder about why I chose such a major/minor combination. Simply put, I chose mechanical engineering as a major as it maximized my skills in math and science while giving me what I felt the best job and career opportunities and would teach me problem solving skills. I chose an English minor as I have always enjoyed English classes, I aspire to right at least one novel, and because I find that they help with critical thinking. In addition, I have a fairly broad range of interests, many stemming from my hopes of becoming self sufficient and never acquiring debt.

Goals and interests

Career goal

At this time I am open to any specific jobs or industry. My preference would be for a smaller manufacturing outfit so that I would be challenged by many different problems and not necessarily by different facets of a single aspect of a product or process.

Graduate school interests

Currently I am uninterested in pursuing a graduate degree.

Outside the classroom

Hobbies that I currently do include reading, writing, crocheting, some sewing, and cooking. In addition, I have many interests and like to research them in order to be able to make informed decisions when I am able to pay for them. Many of these interests stem from my desire to live independently and debt free as I have seen the negative impacts of debt of all sorts and find the risks are not worth the "have it now" benefits. Currently my interests include home gardening in compact scenarios (aka, vertical gardening, aeroponics, aquaponics, hydroponics, container gardening in traditional pots and fabric containers), how to raise some chickens/goats/sheep for their respective products, the tiny house movement including how to design and build my own, dehydrating food with and without electricity, and investigating various re-useable products as alternatives to their common disposable products.
