About
As a small child, I had a difficult time with my spelling and reading. Throughout my elementary school years, I was tested multiple times, and was put in special classes. They determine I had dyslexia and couldn't be around other classmates when testing. I received accommodation for when taking the TASK test and regular tests. This continued all to high school. With my hard work and dedication, my dyslexia started to show less but not gone. Till this day, I have trouble with writing and reading certain words but that doesn't stop me from achieving my goals.
I've been very interested in criminal justice since I was in middle school and all through high school I took criminal justice's classes. In the end of my Junior in high school, I decided to join a program that at the time had no idea it would change my life completely. Border Patrol Explorers Post# 2966 has had the biggest impact on me. I was interviewed by Border Patrol Agents, had my background checked, and proceeded with a two week academy. Despite that it was only two weeks, it was mentally, and physically challenging, especially because I had been overweight my entire life and because of my dyslexia. I pushed myself through those two weeks and, at one point, I wanted to give up. I couldn't handle it anymore but I knew that quitting wasn't an option. I gave all my encourage, and strength, and ended up graduating the academy. From a cadet, I became an explorer. With honor and pride, I wore the uniform and badge on my chest.
Four years later, I have gone to over two dozen competitions, have obtained over four-hundred hours of community service, and have become a supervisor in the chain of command. I have developed communication, leadership, and practical application skills in regards to law enforcement techniques. I have the ability to accomplish tasks in difficult situations that are presented to me. I have gain extensive leadership skills and have being able to help my fellow explores. I am assertive when dealing with situations that have been critical to the explorer post. Unfortunately because I reached the age of 21 years old, I can no longer be an explorer for the post. But I have been asked by the agents to come back as an adviser, to pass on my knowledge to my soon to be former explorers and help them sharpen their skills in scenarios.
Throughout the four years, I have graduated high school with my diploma and NAED ETC Certification on June 2013. In which allowed me to work as a dispatcher for any agencies that I qualified for. Shortly after graduation, I applied for Texas Southmost College and continued my studies in criminal justice. Graduating in May 2016, with an Associates in Criminal Justice. After TSC, I decided to continue my education, and started attending the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in August in 2016. Now I am working on obtaining my Bachelors in Psychology. With the intent to continue my education and working forward to obtain my Masters in Psychology.
