Matheo Beltran

My name is Matheo Beltran. I am a Mechanical Engineering student at NJIT, driven by a strong commitment to helping others and determined to make a difference in this world. I discovered my passion for robotics while participating on the First Robotics Competition (FRC) team during all four years of high school.

My school’s robotics team earned several awards, including the Team Spirit Award, the Imagery Award (four times),and a Finalist Award. While contributing to the team, I also managed a rigorous course load, taking AP Calculus, World History, Spanish Language, and Government & Politics. I was honored to receive the AP Scholar With Distinction Award twice. Drawing on the knowledge and experience I gained from both my classes and my time with the robotics team, I am now pursuing a future in Mechanical Engineering, where I hope to continue building robots that positively impact people’s lives. One project I aspire to develop is a disaster rescue robot capable of navigating through collapsed buildings or flooded areas to locate and assist trapped individuals. The inspiration for my project comes from my family’s roots in Colombia, a country prone to catastrophic earthquakes due to its geographic location. I want to use my engineering schools to help communities like those in my family’s homeland, giving hope and saving victims in the aftermath of earthquakes and natural disasters.
