About

I had decided to go back to college after 13 years of being away from school. I had been going to Northeastern University when I worked as a Paramedic as tuition was free due to tuition reimbursement and a mentor/preceptor program with the college. I majored in Health Care Management and left with 101 credits as I had to have career ending back surgery. I was unable to afford to continue with my studies. Now, with my life experience including personal achievements and many obstacles and downfalls along the way, I have made it back to school. I have persevered and overcome adversity, and I know social work is the area I would love to be in. I would really enjoy helping others and as stated, would love to work in the court system, jails/prisons, or mental health. I also am very knowledgeable regarding the topic of substance abuse.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I am very interested in future employment as a social worker in some capacity involving the court system, jails/prisons, or mental health. I am also very knowledgeable on the topic of substance abuse. I have been fortunate to have completed my junior internship at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility, where I learned a great deal about human services. My internship allowed me to learn more about, and incorporate, social justice and social welfare, as well as many other aspects. I also met with one woman one-on-one for approximately 8 week which was a fantastic learning experience. I will be conducting my senior internship at the Bridgewater State Hospital, where I will have an opportunity to learn about the mental health aspect of social work.
