About
My name is Meghan Pavone. For 17 years I have enjoyed a fulfilling career as an elementary teacher. In this role I delivered, differentiated, and assessed effective instruction within an inclusive classroom environment. While I valued the experience of watching my students grow and succeed, I became increasingly aware of the growing challenges teachers are facing today. Limited time and support, classroom management demands, and ever-changing curriculum and technology are examples of difficulties that lead to teacher burnout and fatigue. As these challenges seemed to increase in my school, I was encouraged to set a new direction for my work, and to find ways to support teachers by learning to close gaps in education through problem solving and critical thinking. By pursuing my doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, I seek to follow my passion to support preservice teachers as a professor in higher education.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
I am seeking the Graduate Student Achiever Scholarship to support me as I work toward my long-term goal of becoming a professor for aspiring teachers. I plan to continue pursuing this goal while still in school. By dedicating myself to my coursework and using my growing knowledge to support educators in my local community, I hope to contribute to education in a meaningful way.
- Graduate school interests
The Curriculum and Instruction Education Doctorate Program at the University of Houston-Clear Lake aims to prepare educators in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) areas to both develop individual practice as well as influence educational programs for the benefit of diverse student populations. Specific skills that are targeted in this program include: influencing leadership policy; analyzing and creating STEM curriculum; addressing specific needs of diverse communities; and supporting a STEM focused learning environment. It is my goal to use these skills to impact future educators to incorporate best teaching practices in STEM for their own students.
- Outside the classroom
I love spending my free time doing things that help me feel energized and connected with my friends and family. Swimming and tennis are my favorite ways to stay active. I also enjoy getting lost in a good book, whether I'm learning something new or escaping into a great story. Some of my happiest moments come from simply hanging out with my family, laughing, talking, and playing games together.
