About

Senior in High School planning to study Meteorology at Iowa State University

Michael Kennedy Jones V was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia on January 21, 2005. His father served for 23 years in the United States Navy as a Naval Flight Officer, Flight Instructor, and Electronic Warfare/Signals Intelligence Officer. He attends Oak Harbor High School where he is currently 12th in his class of 397 with a 3.97 GPA.

Ever since a young age, Michael was incredibly gifted, and was very successful in his education. After he enrolled in Oak Harbor High School, Michael took on a variety of challenging classes, which included AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Calculus AB, and AP Physics. In addition to his success in his classes, Michael scored a 1470 on the SAT. For his academic success, Michael was awarded an Academic Letter, as well as the AP Scholar With Honor award for passing more than four AP Exams with an average score of 3.75. He is currently in his senior year taking AP Statistics, AP Computer Science, and AP Calculus BC, which he is passing with straight A's.

In addition to his academic success, Michael has also been involved in a variety of extracurricular activities, such as Knowledge Bowl since 2022, National Honors Society since 2020, Treasurer of 4-H Shooting Sports from 2021-2022, JV Golf from 2018-2022, and United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Youth League since 2010. Among these, Michael excels at bowling, where he maintains a 200 average and placed 10th in the state of Washington in the U18 division in 2022.

Spurring from his passion for Bowling, Michael works part-time at Oak Bowl and Mario's Pizza in Oak Harbor, Washington. He has worked there since May 2022, where he has gained experience serving customers, operating the front desk, and fixing bowling equipment.

Along with working a part-time job, Michael has been active in community service at Family Bible Church, where he serves at the church welcome center, helps prepare children's activities for Sunday school classes, and volunteers for Vacation Bible School (VBS), where he serves as an assistant to the director of children's ministry. He also assists at Oak Harbor High School with tutoring and campus clean-up, and with 4-H for firing range clean-up.

Michael will be attending Iowa State University beginning in the fall semester of 2023, where he will be majoring in Meteorology with minors in Data and Computer Science. After graduating college, his goal is to work for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), with his sights set on the National Hurricane Center in Orlando, FL.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I plan to move to Florida after graduating with my Major in meteorology and finding work with either NOAA, NASA, or the National Hurricane Center. If other opportunities arise closer to Iowa, I plan to take that opportunity to gain a couple years of work experience before moving down to Florida to continue to pursue my career with a large meteorological organization.
