About
My name is Mikayla Shenkel, I am driven and eager to impact the world around me for the better. I believe strongly that success comes from living life according to our personal philosophies. Because of this, I work hard to actively push my mind, body, and soul everyday. Active living, as I call it, has made me more able to recognize the things in our world that need changing, be a better listener, and a more productive and honorable leader.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
I hope to work with government agencies on a state level to help implement policies that holistically benefit communities and their needs. I am also interested in working with a political consultant, lobbying, special interest, or a non profit organization that will allow me to represent a community or cause. Being a state legislator would also be a dream come true.
- Graduate school interests
It is my dream to continue my education by completing a graduate program in the field of Public Policy. The schools that have thus far caught my eye are UC Berkeley, Duke University, and University of Chicago.
- Outside the classroom
Athletics have always been important to me. Throughout high school I was an active member and captain of both the volleyball and ski team. In college I have continued these hobbies by starting UC Santa Cruz’s only woman’s volleyball club.
