Goals and interests

Career goal

I'm going to start my nursing program in 2020 fall semester. This is an Associate Nursing Degree program. If I finish my Associate Nursing Degree, I will continue to study for Bachelor of nursing program while I'm working as a registered nurse. I was science teacher in South Korea. I like to teaching students so I'm also interested to be a nursing instructor in the future. Then, I'm going to master degree to be a nursing educator. If I work at the hospital as a registered nurse, I want to work cardiac or pulmonary unit. Because I'm a pulmonary artery hypertension patient. So I want to help patients who have similar suffering. When I become a nursing instructor, I want to emphasize how they are tre

Outside the classroom

I like to listen to podcasts and read books when I have free time.

My first hobby is listening to podcasts because they provide a variety of topics. I can choose a topic which I'm interested in.
For example, I listen to The Daily and 1A NPR to catch up on morning news. Also, I enjoy listening to TED to educate myself, The School of Greatness to be motivated, Stuff You Should Know to entertain myself.

Another reason is I can do another work while I'm listening to podcasts. Podcasts usually offer audio files to provide content, so I don't need to look at the smartphone screen. I can do dishes or cleaning while I'm listening to podcasts.

Reading books is my second hobby.
I like to read a book every day because I can learn lots of information from non-fiction, expand my imagination and creativity from friction. I try to read a book per month.

Another reason is I can learn English as a non-native speaker. I have a rule which is to look up the dictionary whenever I find unknown words while I read a book. It takes time to search vocabularies every time, but I believe my vocabulary skill is improved while I'm reading books.

Volunteering

  • When I moved to the U.S in 2007, I'd volunteered at the local school for a year. I wanted to help the local, which is the place I'm going to live in for a while. I could contribute to assist a primary teacher in the classroom because I've experienced teaching in South Korea. My role is assisting students who need extra help. When students are struggling to solve the problem, I approached and helped them. Also, I set up the science experiment equipment and material before the class and cleaned it up after class. It was fun volunteer work because I could learn the American class, which I was always curious about.

  • I had volunteered to teach the disabled from 2003 to 2006 while I was a college student in South Korea. I was interested in teaching someone because my major was science education. Also, I wanted to help the neglected social groups who need more attention and consideration. My role is not only teaching the disabled but also preparing their lunch and providing transportation to the school. Our volunteer group met once a week and worked 8hours a day. It was worthwhile work even if it was physically hard work.
