About

My name is Monica Mayo and I am a freshman at Florida Gulf Coast University in Ft Myers. I was born in Orlando, Fl and lived there all my life. I am fluent in both English and Spanish due to my parents being Cuban. I am pursuing a degree in Nursing and plan to graduate in 2019. When I was in high school, I was told I had an auditory and visual processing disorder. I felt sad and frustrated. I didn’t want to be labeled; I didn’t want to be that kid that is different. After days of processing the information, I felt an incredible amount of relief. I have learned to live with my disability and I feel very proud of my efforts and achievements. Last semester I made the Dean's List at FGCU. I have a deep conviction that I will be a great nurse. After graduation, I plan to do a Master's Degree in nursing specializing in the field of Dermatology.
