Monika Wanis

I was a double major, in Anthropology and Psychology, and a double minor, in Integrative Medicine and Neuroscience, as an undergraduate at The Ohio State University. After graduation I became the case manager supervisor of Nancy's Place Women's Homeless Shelter, the largest women's homeless shelter in Columbus, Ohio. I decided to return to academia and pursue my dream of becoming a college professor. I am currently a Biocultural Medical Anthropology student at The University of Alabama interested in cross cultural differences in health seeking behaviors. I study traditional, complementary and alternative medicine in order to understand why people seek traditional healers and alternative therapies as opposed to biomedical practitioners and biomedical practices. My goal is to obtain my doctorate degree, become a university professor and continue exploring various healing modalities from particularly the middle east, with the hope of integrating a holistic, well rounded approach to Western healthcare frameworks.
