About

I was a teacher in Mongolia, but had become interested in a new career in the health care field here in America. The population here is much larger than that of Mongolia and many more are getting older and will need health care services. Still, it was a more personal experience that help direct my education and career goal.

Goals and interests

Career goal

Five years ago I needed emergency dental care. I am very small, but my weight had gotten down to 84 pounds and I had what I thought was just a tooth ache. A friend took me to a client of his who was a dentist and may have saved my life. An abscess had developed in my lower jaw, and another was forming under a previous root canal I’d received while working as an Au Pair for a family of six in Germany. I was told I would have eventually developed sepsis and may have gone into septic shock. After that experience, considering my options, and talking to the dental professionals and friends that had helped me, I decided to pursue a new career as a Dental Hygienist.

Graduate school interests

There are several schools I have discovered that no longer offer Dental Hygiene. I wanted to attend the University of Maryland but their classes are all in Baltimore. I live in Germantown, so attempting to travel to classes in Baltimore without a car is not practical. Howard University can be accessed by metro from Shady Grove and I can ride into Washington, D.C. with my friend. So I contacted Assistant Professor J. B. Owens, Director of Dental Hygiene Admissions at Howard University and discussed my plans. He suggested I start at Montgomery College since there are more convenient campuses in Germantown and Rockville where I now attend classes. At the successful completion of my course requirements at Montgomery College, I plan to transfer to the Howard University School of Dentistry to complete my education in Dental Hygiene.

Outside the classroom

I like listening music, motivational and religious speakers presentation, reading Joel Osteen's books, and traveling. In 2000, I was in Germany working as aupair. in 2004, I had an opportunity to study in Bloomington, Indiana. Fortunately, I had an chance to travel to Hawaii and Florida.
